Game Day.

LSU vs. Bama…again. College-football shirt day at school, translated as LSU day for most kids at Southwood. And, being one of the few people who is not a fan of LSU, I was forced into LSU apparel during lunch. It was traumatizing to say the least. But I did make sure that my Colts lanyard was in plain sight for the picture, keeping my pride.

I sent this picture to my mom, and it got an immediate response of laughter and humorous texts. Then she uploaded it to Facebook AND hacked into my Facebook to change it into my profile picture. Thanks Mom.;) Then when LSU lost, she told me I jinxed them by wearing this, and i said, “See! This is what happens when you force someone into LSU stuff!!”

But I still have my pride and my dignity, and I’m still not a Tiger. Success? I think so 🙂

New Year, New Start. January 2, 2012

Filed under: Uncategorized — waterwalkerla @ 7:31 pm

So….It’s been a while….once again. But hey, it’s a new year, and that means i can start fresh  and try again.

I came home from school today, and got on FAcebook. This is what I saw:

“Okay…2 new challenges for 2012: first, we will each post at least once a week on our blogs; second, we will each post a picture a week. Are you game??”

From the one and only Madre of mine. And i said, “Yeah I’m game!”

So, now i have to be faithful and post once a week at least. So i think this post will just be one to catch up with!

Freshman Year. We’re getting ready for Midterms next week, and getting ready to start the second semester. It’s going really great, and I have straight A’s in all 8 classes. I’m making a lot of new friends, and I have such a fun time with them! I’m also going to a Military Ball with a friend atthe end of January.

Church. A few weeks ago, our band went on a Band Retreat and we recorded songs for a CD. It was soo much fun!! Now we just have to wait for our Youth Pastor to finish the CD haha. Also, our band played for church yesterday, and we had a great time!

Other. Christmas was amazing, and New Year’s was a lot of fun too! We had a Guitar Hero “tournament,” and we did make it to midnight here. 😉 I get to go to Baton Rouge with some kids from school next weekend, and it’s gonna be fun! I got some cute boots from a friend, and I am almost addicted to Pinterest now too….great….haha.

Think that’s it for today, but keep me accountable!!

One Year Old! :) August 17, 2011

My Life As A Teenage Chef is one year old!! 🙂

Lets see, last year when I started this blog, My brother and I had been homeschooling for about a week. This year, My first day of school is tomorrow, and I will be a freshman Lady Cowboy(or straight up Cowgirl) at Southwood High School! Last year I was slowly making friends, and getting used to Louisiana life, but now i feel like i’ve been here almost all my life! I’m still having a hard time adjusting to the heat though! Louisiana really needs a real snow day every now and then…sorry mom! 😉

You would have thought that being home all the time last year, I would have been really good about posting regularly, but guess not! Haha but this year, even though I’m going to be busy with school, helping with sports at church, singing at Collide, and taking pictures, I’m gonna try really hard to post at least every other week! So help keep me accountable to that!!

Ellie’s Song♥ August 15, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — waterwalkerla @ 8:48 am

This is my Youth Pastor, Gregg. And yes, He is riding a child’s bike.

And this is his wife Tamra. (Note, we do not usually dress like this. It was 80’s gym night at camp)

And this is their precious little boy, Eli 🙂

And, God-willing, there’s going to be a new addition to the Gober family! Here’s what Gregg has to say about it!

“Hey everyone! I wanted to let you in on a little of what God is doing in Tam and I’s life. We are scared, excited and we are trusting the Lord.
Last summer the Lord really impressed on our hearts that we are suppose to adopt a child. He revealed it to us separately at first and then as we both came to each other with our convictions on the subject we were ecstatic to find out our hearts were united. There are only a few things we know for sure: 1. We feel we are supposed to adopt a girl from a country where girls are not really regarded very highly in their society, and 2. We feel specifically led to adopt her from a country where there is very little access to the gospel.
Of course our flesh immediately sees obstacles and a few concerns but we know ultimately that the Lord is in control of those things.
Well as I was praying about how we were going to come up with the money for this adoption the thought occurred to me that I could write a song and whoever wanted to contribute could go on iTunes and buy it for a dollar. All the proceeds would go to fund the adoption. I would call it “Ellie’s Song.” So I prayed that the Lord would give me some lyrics and I really feel that He did. With the help of my brother, we have finished recording it and “Ellie’s Song” should go on sale (if everything works out as planned ((and it rarely does))) sometime at the end of this week or beginning of next. I am putting three other original songs on there as well in case you feel the Lord impressing on you to contribute $4 instead of $1, but anything and everything helps. I hope you will partner with us in bringing Ellie home and together with the Lord we will TRULY write “Ellie’s Song.”I will keep you all updated on when the song actually hits iTunes. Please pray for us. In fact would you please take the time right now and say a prayer for us, we would greatly appreciate it. To God be the glory.”

All four of his songs are up on iTunes, and they are AMAZING!! Go buy them! NOW!! Haha and there is also a group on Facebook that Gregg created, called “Ellie’s Song,” where they will be posting updates!!

As a youth group, we are all very excited for them, and cannot wait to meet her!! Please keep them in your prayers!!

Ellie,
I cannot wait to meet you. I know God has an amazing family picked out for you, and you’ll be a huge blessing to them too. We’re praying for you, and our love for you builds every day. Know that God has a plan for you through all you struggle with. I cannot wait to see your precious face, and hear your beautiful laugh. Keep believing♥

Yummtastical Cake Batter Cinnamon Rolls! June 28, 2011

I think the name sums this one up pretty nicely. Try them, and you’ll see why. Or maybe just looking at the pictures will convince you that the title is correct. Either way works.

This recipe comes from How Sweet It Is, one of the coolest blogs ever! I saw the recipe, and just had to try it!

Cake Batter Cinnamon Rolls

rolls recipe from The Pioneer Woman (with a few additions)

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1/2 cup sugar

1 package dry yeast (or 2 1/4 teaspoons)

4 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

3/4 cup of yellow cake mix

melted butter

cinnamon

sugar

sprinkles

Mix the milk, sugar and oil in a large pot. Scald the mixture, then let cool for a little while. When it has cooled (but is still slightly warm), sprinkle the yeast into the milk mixture and let it sit for a minute. Add four cups of flour and mix until a dough forms, then cover and let rise for at least one hour.

After an hour, add the remaining 1/2 cup of flour, baking soda and powder and mix. I use my hands to make sure the dough completely comes together. Flour your workspace and roll the dough with a rolling pin until it’s thin and somewhat rectangular, then brush with melted butter (as much as you want) and generously cover with cinnamon, sugar and 3/4 cup cake mix. Sprinkle on sprinkles, then starting with the end away from you, roll the dough into a line towards you. Slice the rolls about 1 inch thick and lay in pans that have been greased. Let the rolls rise for about 30 minutes.

Bake at 400 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
Cake Batter Glaze

1 cup powdered sugar

1/4 cup yellow cake mix

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk

sprinkles

Mix ingredients together until a smooth glaze forms. If needed, add more liquid one drop at a time until desired consistency is reached. Pour over cinnamon rolls then cover in sprinkles.

I mean, come on! Don’t these look amazing??? Well they taste even better!

Soo, we stuck candles in one of these for my youth pastor’s birthday. It already tastes like birthday cake, so why not make it look like it too!
